Primes — for look
Fast primes (f/1.4–f/1.8) give you shallow depth of field, better low-light, and that premium separation. Best when you control the scene: portraits, products, interviews.
Zooms — for flexibility
A fast zoom (like a 24–70 f/2.8) covers a range without swapping glass. Best for events, run-and-gun and unpredictable shoots.
The usual answer: one of each
Most shoots rent a fast zoom for coverage and one prime for the hero shots. That combo handles almost anything without renting a whole bag.
